Why Choose Organic?

Do you understand the importance of organic toddler food? That really is the first step in the process, to gain knowledge about what organic really means. Here's the deal: Organic foods are guaranteed by the USDA to be free of toxic pesticides, fertilizers, hormones, antibiotics, and genetic modifiers. Organic foods can range from meat, poultry, to produce, dairy and lots of additional products.

I have found organic fruit snacks, cereal and many more products. You will be amazed at all of the organic products on the market today. We are also progressing into more organic cleaning products, diapers etc. You may not be able to afford 100% organic all the time, but the more organics you give your children, the greater toddler health will be.

From my understanding, (and I am Blessed to have a vegan friend in my life who provides me information...:0)) Eating organic will drastically reduce the intake of the pesticides and chemicals your body is receiving. There are certain fruits and vegetables that come "highly recommended" to eat organically. There is a dirty dozen list that I am sure you are familiar with. I will share with you some of these fruits and vegetables below. We want good toddler safety and it begins with their health.

Dirty Dozen List: (Certain fruits and veggies have been identified as the ones most likely to contain pesticides, so whenever possible, opt for organic on these.)

• Apples
• Bell Peppers
• Celery
• Cherries
• Grapes
• Nectarines
• Peaches
• Pears
• Potatoes
• Raspberries
• Strawberries
• Spinach

Fruits and Vegetables "Least Likely" To Have Pesticide Residue:

• Pineapple
• Kiwi
• Mango
• Banana
• Avocado
• Sweet Peas
• Eggplant
• Onion
• Sweet Corn
• Cabbage
• Asparagus
• Broccoli

The Myth:"Organic products are too expensive"

I understand what some parents may be thinking. It can be rather expensive to shop for organic toddler food. On the contrary, I have actually found ways to save money while buying these products. Especially in the Summer months, you can find fresh local organic produce at Farmers Markets and farms. You can find the produce cheaper than you would in the grocery store. You could stock up and consider canning or freezing the items for the entire year. There are ways to get creative.

You can also look into local Farmers who raise their chickens, beef etc. organically. You can sometimes get really good deals and stock up for an entire year! Purchasing a deep freezer can make it easier to store all of your meat. You can get online and again ask around for your local farmers. Plus you are supporting a local small farm as well, which is a good thing.

Look Locally

I have found smaller stores in my area where the organic products and dairy were much cheaper than say a local health food store. Shop around and look at different stores in your area. Word of mouth goes a long way. Ask friends, family, and even other Moms about where they shop for organic bargains. You will be pleasantly surprised where you can find deals...:0)

Grow Your Own Organic Fruits And Vegetables

This is a great way to cut down costs AND teach toddler learning in the process. This way you will trust that you are growing 100% organic. Toddlers can be great little helpers in the garden. I know that gardening is work, but the benefits you will REAP will be life changing. For the entire family.

Don't be Lazy....Prepare The Food

When you prepare your own organic toddler food, you know what is going in them and what DOESN'T. Your own whole wheat noodles and organic cheese is healthier then buying a box of macaroni and cheese. Have you ever read those boxed mac and cheese labels? Geez, that's scary. Buy your own meats and poultry. Bake your own foods! We have gotten lazy in this society. It's time to get back to the way of old. Cook at home more often, it makes a big difference.

Are You Looking For An Organic Zucchini Muffin Recipe?

Ingredients:

• 4 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
• 1/2 cup Organic Dark Brown Sugar
• 1 egg
• 3/4 cup Pear Sauce
• 3 Whole Carrots
• 1 cup Vegetable, Zucchini
• 1 cup Wheat Flour, Whole-grain
• 3/4 cup Organic All-Purpose Flour
• 2 tbsp Baking Powder Aluminum Free
• 1 tsp Cinnamon, Ground
• 1/2 tsp Nutmeg, Ground
• 1/2 tsp Salt

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400F
In a large bowl, whisk together oil and sugar.
Beat in egg, then applesauce.
Stir in carrots and zucchini.
In another large bowl, whisk together flours, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
Fold dry ingredients into wet, until just mixed.
Spoon batter to the very top of sprayed, paper-lined muffin cups and bake 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in a muffin
